Down to the Front picture story film

My new picture story is not a book this time. I’ve filmed the pictures instead.

It’ glimpses the life of an imagined mother and daughter as they flee from a disaster and seek somewhere new to live. It takes place in a simplified storyland that’s a bit like my home town of Hastings.
About 10 years ago I went to an open mic night where this guy did an anti-immigration poem. He tried and failed to get us to join in a chorus along the lines of ” keep them out, send them home”.
After that open mic night I went home and wrote the song ‘Down To The Front’.
There was a typically nasty Daily Mail article a few weeks ago that portrayed the victims of war seeking safety in Kos as an eyesore to holiday makers. It inspired me to dust the song off and turn it into this picture story film.
