Fun Run

I’ve done a musical version of my poem ‘Fun Run’ from my collection of poetry ‘Me and My Alien Friend’:

Take a listen:

I got a melodica for Christmas, I hope you feel I’ve made good use of it!

Here’s the words, though WordPress doesn’t seem to let me put it in verses as it appears in the book:

Fun Run pg 19

Fun Run

I can’t run fast and I get out of breath,

When I try to keep up with Jemma and Beth,

I don’t understand why they always want to win,

Seems they get to the end before I even begin.

So I thought a ‘School Fun Run’ an awful idea,

I couldn’t escape a terrible fear,

I dreaded the thought that I’d come last,

And all of the school would cruelly laugh.

Well today was The Run and I changed my mind,

I learnt to run can be fun when you’re left behind,

‘Cus I got to know Jack at the back like me,

He said “just enjoy moving don’t think about speed”.

I’d never spoken to him before but he’s really alright,

In fact we’re going roller-skating later tonight.

Well when we turned a corner, here’s the surprise,

Jem and Beth were waiting for us to arrive,

We all ran together to the finish line,

We all jumped across at just the right time.

We all ran together to the finish line,

We all jumped across at just the right time.
