New Single Release- The Starling Ballroom

So… I don’t like flying.

On the way back from Portugal earlier this year I found the best way to distract myself (from thinking about the fact I was in a metal box hurtling through the sky) was to make music on my iPad.

Since then I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of obsessive music making mixing electronic and acoustic sounds. All instrumental, no vocals.

I’ve now completed an album’s worth of stuff which will be called Feel Good Film. The title reflects the feel of most of the music. The album will soon be ready to be out in the world and ignored on all streaming services. 😊

It has been a joyously playful experience staying up late and getting this done.

This is the first track I’m putting out there: The Starling Ballroom.

It’s based on an ultra slowed down and reversed recording of a waltz setting from an old casio, but then goes into a nice 12 string guitar sound, with shooting star atmospherics.

I was thinking of the Olivia Coleman film empire of light while I was making it, and to me it is about the scenes in that film where the two main characters meet in an abandoned cinema.

In that film the birds were pigeons but I thought Starling Ballroom sounded better than pigeon ballroom.

Please give it a listen and maybe add it to your “happy sad filmic primitive electronica meets open tuned 12 string” playlist.

Your friends on this journey are an adventurous barefooted child and his equally adventurous cat.

The unconventional mix of stories, poems and art bring an enchanting version of the British countryside to life.

Here we find wolves and bears hidden behind the leaves of the high branches of an oak tree .

Here we walk along evening paths with The Crow-man: Jamboranja Jamboram.

Here we dream ourselves to the far lands of Unsomewhere.

And here, with the wild ones, we always find healing magic and another bright tomorrow.

These daydreams of the wild are as much for adults as  children. We The Wild Ones is for everyone.
